Friends of Mental Health West Kent and Medway

About us

The Friends of Mental Health (West Kent and Medway) provide financial support to many service users and wards and departments throughout the area. Much of our work is involved in providing essential items for service users on discharge particularly after a long period of in-patient treatment. Items can range from basic essentials such as kitchen and household equipment to washing machines and large furniture items.
Supplies of basic food items have been made to service users on discharge.
Some of our service users transfer to us from the justice system and often only have with them the clothes they arrive in. The Friends are able to support these individuals with basic clothing essentials as they have no access to any income from the benefits system.
We provide basic courtesy packs of toiletries to emergency admissions and welcome packs to those arriving in our Mother and Baby Unit in Dartford. Other wards and departments have been provided with garden furniture, indoor games tables and televisions to enhance thew activities available within these areas.
The Friends have also supported the improvement of garden areas in a number of wards and departments and outdoor seating has been purchased for Lakeside Lounge, a small café facility attached to Trevor Gibbens Unit in Maidstone which provides work experience and socialising opportunities for both service users and staff.
